August 2015
Dear OLG Families,
Welcome to the 2015-16 School Year!
I hope you have had a glorious summer! We look forward to seeing as many as possible of you at our School Supply Drop-Off & Ice Cream Social on Wednesday, August 26th.
The school doors will be open from 5:30 – 6:30 pm, and ice cream will be served by the Walmesley Center starting at 6:00 pm. We are welcoming wonderful new OLG families in nearly every grade, so be sure to introduce yourself if you see an unfamiliar face!
Games and music by the our own fabulous OLG music group, the Starry Crowns, will round out the evening from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, thanks to the parish. This event is a combined “Welcome Back to School” event and an a parish-wide volunteer appreciation event. Come celebrate and enjoy the evening with our whole OLG parish community!
Meanwhile, if you’d like to share additional back-to-school supplies with our neighbors at the High Point Youth Tutoring Program, we will be collecting them through the first week of school. See their “wish list.”
The school staff has been working to review and streamline our emergency plans. Thanks to David Pedras who has been lending his expertise and consulting with the staff and experts in the field. We will be holding a full emergency drill early in the year and want to ensure that every child has a kit! Please send this in promptly. Thank you!

From our new Director of Development and Marketing…
As a mother of two, I am a firm believer in Catholic education. My daughters are entering second and fifth grades at St. Anthony School in Renton this year, and I find that the parental involvement, community and education are head and shoulders above those of my friends with children in public school.
I come to OLG from Sacred Heart School in Bellevue, where I was the Development Assistant. In that role I worked on the Annual Fund, Auction and other fundraising and alumni events. Prior to having children I worked in Marketing for a Fortune 500 company, and I look forward to bringing all of my skill sets to work in this position.
In addition, I’m highly involved at my daughters’ school, coordinating the annual Oktoberfest Carnival, volunteering in the classroom and leading two separate Girl Scout Troops. I love the feeling of family I share with the entire school community through this involvement, and I look forward to joining the OLG family as well.
Thank you to everyone who participated in our lunch program surveys last spring. Based on the feedback we received, we have decided to go with the No Junk program this year. Special thanks to Jill Pagano and Teresa Godfrey who helped with researching lunch programs!
Please see the flyer and visit the No Junk website to learn more! Note that there is a midnight-the-night-before deadline for ordering, and only pre-ordered lunches will be delivered. Families with remaining balances with Queen Ann Catering will have the opportunity to cash in their lunch cards in September. Information will be coming after the start of the school year about how to do this.
Logo Sweatshirt & Vest Orders To order OLG logo sweatshirts and vests, please fill out the order form and return it to the school office, along with payment. Orders will be placed on Friday, September 11th, unless we have the requested items in our inventory. Orders placed last spring will be ready for pick-up at the School Supply Drop-Off event on August 26th. Our Uniform Exchange items will also be available that evening.
Window Upgrade The window upgrade for the library, stairwells, and ends of the hallways is underway, thanks to our generous 2015 Auction donors! Be sure to check them out during our School Supply Drop-Off evening. What a wonderful improvement they will be. Now to tackle those other rooms…
