I’m so excited to be the science teacher and 6th grade homeroom teacher at OLG!
My Career Path
My career path has led me to some amazing places. I’m so thrilled to start a new adventure at OLG. Although I grew up in southern Georgia, I chose my first adventure to travel to the Pacific Northwest for university. I graduated with a degree in Zoology from Wazzu. Go Cougs! From there, I researched seabirds for a few years, traveling to California, Alaska, and the eastern shore of Virginia. Along the way, I cleaned up oiled seabirds, captured rare ocean seabirds in mist nets, and developed a strong understanding of scientific research. I’ve always loved learning and teaching others and so after my Alaskan adventure, I decided to try a position as a science teacher at a Christian school in Georgia. I loved it! It was so wonderful teaching about science in a loving and supportive community. Major life changes moved me to new adventures in NYC, Connecticut, and Germany. During this period, I studied fruit flies at Yale, earned a Masters degree, published a scientific paper, and attempted to learn German!
My Favorite People
My husband is a neuroscientist at the Allen Brain Institute. His research ultimately aims to describe all neural cell types within the mammalian cortex. My son is super excited to be living in Seattle. He loves the water, the Space Needle, and the whales.
