I am excited to inform you that we have the opportunity to pilot an online math program in grades K-4 called Math-Whizz for the next 6-8 weeks at no cost! The students begin with an assessment which will deliver content to their math level. After the assessment, they begin to take lessons that are guided in tutor mode. At the end of each lesson they take a short test to see if they have grasped the concept or need more practice. I have used this program in my previous school and had much success with students making noticeable progress while enjoying this as a supplement to the curriculum.
With recommended usage, Math-Whizz is shown to produce measurable gains for students of all abilities. As a parent you can contribute to getting best results by ensuring your child is spending a total of 20 to 30 minutes two to three times a week logging into Math-Whizz.
Our goal in school is to have students log on as often as possible during morning work, technology time or at math centers. At the end of our pilot, we will review the data to see if we should continue using Math Whizz and then would look into the cost of purchasing a school subscription. Teacher, student, and parent feedback will be needed so please let us know how it goes at home!
Attached to this letter is your child’s log on information. You may use Math-Whizz on an ipad but it seems to work best on a laptop. Access is easy – you’ll find there is no software to download and Math-Whizz is available 24/7 with internet access. You can access Math-Whizz from home at www.whizz.us and help ensure your child succeeds. You will find the log in area appears in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Log in with your child and sign up for free parent emails to stay in the loop!
