January 26th Newsletter

January 26, 2017

Dear OLG Families,
It’s here! Catholic Schools’ Week Schedule:
Sunday, January 29th – Catholic Schools’ Week Open House 9:00 am – 1:00 pm and CSW-focused Mass at 11:00 am
Students who attend Mass in uniform may wear free dress on Monday, Jan. 30th!
If you know someone who is curious about an OLG education, please encourage him or her to attend our Open House. We appreciate your referral! We hope to see you at the Open House and Mass. We will be having one of our 8th graders speak about his/her experience at OLG at each Mass. Be sure to visit the classrooms during Open House to see art, student work and special projects, class auction projects, and the middle school students presenting their Genius Hour Projects. Learn more here about Genius Hour. Sign up if you’d like to help out as a judge; no experience necessary, and current OLG parents can earn commitment hours!
Monday, January 30th – Staff Appreciation Day
Tuesday, January 31st – Parent/Guardian Appreciation Day

Wednesday, February 1st – OLG Winter Concert
We will celebrate the rich tradition of music education at OLG with our Winter Concert at 7:00 pm in the church. Doors open at 6:30 pm.
Preschool – 5th grade students should go to their classroom at 6:30.
Middle School Choir students should meet in the church at 6:30.
Middle School Band students should meet in the School Hall at 6:30.
Thursday, February 2nd – Special Persons’ Day
Special guests may come to school with your child or arrive at school by 8:45 am to accompany their special student to 9:00 Mass. Mass will be followed by a brunch in the Walmesley Center or School Hall. Students will be divided into the two spaces by family last names. We’ll thank our special guests and send them on their way by 11:15 am.
Sign up here if you’re able to volunteer!
*If your student is in need of a Special Person to bring to Special Persons’ Day, please let your child’s teacher or the school office know. We will do our best to help!  There are several wonderful parishioners/staff who would love to be their guest!

We’re looking forward to a great week, celebrating the many gifts of being part of a Catholic parish school community!

Trivia Night
Special thanks to Cassie Jenkins and Jessica Burris for planning and implementing the second OLG Trivia Night on Jan. 14th. It was a huge success and a very fun evening. The friendly competition really got going, and new talents for trivia were discovered. The food from Shadowland was a hit as well!
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

Important Update
Families, if you have changed your account name to your child(ren)’s name in the software program that we use for online purchases such as pizza, game night and the auction, we need you to change it back to the adult names as soon as possible.
This is very important for the auction, your reservations, tax letter and the day of the auction activities.  If you do not change your account back, all of these things will be listed under your child’s name and not yours.
Please log in and update your account.  Questions?  Please contact Laurie Robbins.

Parish Outreach

Join us for Catholic Advocacy Day
Every year, hundreds of Catholics from across the state participate in Catholic Advocacy Day, coordinated by Catholic Community Services, the Intercommunity Peace & Justice Center (IPJC) and the Washington State Catholic Conference.  This year’s theme is “Be a Neighbor and an Advocate for All,” which spans a variety of legislative issues including economic justice, housing and life issues.  Other priority issues that may be addressed include education, health care, the environment, and immigration.  Join us on Thursday, March 16th from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm in Olympia for Mass, briefings on legislative issues, stories of how your advocacy makes a difference, and appointments with your legislators.  This is a well-organized event where first-time advocates can learn the ropes and transportation is provided!  Be sure to register by February 24th. For registration questions, call (206) 223-1138 or email IPJC.
