Judges Needed for Genius Hour Projects

I’m Michael Stein-Ross, the Our Lady of Guadalupe Middle School Science Teacher.

In past years the students have showcased their science fair experiments. This year, the Middle School is piloting a re-imagined approach to the individual student project; we call it Genius Hour. In Genius Hour, students are coached through the process of identifying a passion, setting goals, researching their chosen topic, and creating a final product. Students were also encouraged to make an impact on their community by sharing their learning with others.

The process began in September and is now coming to a close. The end result will be a TED-style talk that each student will give, telling the story of his or her learning journey through these last 18 weeks.

Just like with the Science Fair, we are looking for judges to provide feedback for the students. Having judges helps to create an authentic experience for the students and ensures that no student gives his or her talk to an empty room.

The Genius Hour Talks will be during the Catholic School’s Week Open House, on January 29th from 9AM to 1PM.  Judges are needed from 9AM-11AM, and 12PM-1PM. You can sign up for an hour, two hours, or any increment of an hour.
