News from the Choir

Happy Holiday Season to all Guadalupe families from Ms. Milanese

It has been such a pleasure to work with the middle school choirs over my years at OLG.

Singing in a choir provides so many positive experiences for our young singers.

I believe planting the seed of music and helping students develop their voices creates individual confidence, fosters teamwork and allows the beauty of the human voice to bloom in our middle school students.

So far this year we have been working on listening to each other while singing pieces in unison, through partner songs and harmony work we are familiarizing our ears to part-singing and we have been writing our own lyrics, collaboratively, to the melodies of familiar songs.

We are also using the ukulele skills of members of our choir to accompany many of our pieces. Therefore the music making and lyric writing of many of our pieces are fully created by the students.

Needless to say, there is a lot of creativity flowing at 7:45 am on Wednesdays!

If your child is interested in singing, writing songs or accompanying the choir on their chosen instrument, they are more than welcome to give choir a try. All are welcome to this creative process.

If the 7:45 am timeslot is not an option for you or your child, I will be assembling a singing/song writing group that will meet at my home studio, which is a few blocks from OLG, in January 2016. If you would like more information regarding this, please contact me.

Keep Singing!

Sincerely,

Ms. Milanese
