OLG Newsletter – Dec. 12th

December 12, 2014

Dear OLG Families,

Happy Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe!

Special thanks to Ms. Hobbs and our Student Council for preparing and dramatizing the story of Our Lady of Guadalupe appearing to Juan Diego and his faith-filled “Yes!” to her request. Members of the Student Council also took on other roles at Mass and helped to make it a very special Feast Day celebration! The music was spirited and joyful, led by Ms. Sager and the 4th/5th grade chorus and Miss McKamey and the band. Our kindergarteners and eighth grade buddies processed in with paper roses to place before the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe, and the 8th grade shared their beautiful, traditional Mary Dance, with vocal and piano accompaniment by Ms. Sager. Thanks to Erin Stampe, Ann Manning, and their team of volunteers, the celebration continued with a feast in the Walmesley Center after Mass! We’re so grateful to the parishioners, family members, and faithful Eucharistic Ministers who celebrated with us today!

Parish Commitment Card

Please take time to complete and return your parish commitment card before December 31st, in order to register for in-parish tuition for 2015-16. See Fr. Jack’s letter and the Revised In-Parish Tuition Policy. Thank you for all of the ways in which you are generously involved and invested in our community!

NOTE:  The first step is to make a commitment for 2015, either by completing a paper commitment card (available at the parish and school offices and in the church) or online. This is different than updating or continuing your online automatic payments! Please call if you have questions. Follow this link to complete your commitment card online and get started! Then set up or adjust your electronic payments here!

Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us!

Thank you!

The Parent Org would like to extend a big ‘thanks’ to Ms. Heidi for her help in coordinating and hosting our Parent Ed Night last Thursday evening! We were happy to get a good turnout for such an important topic. The presenter, Stefanie Thomas, from the Seattle Police Department was fantastic and gave useful tips on what we, as parents, can do to keep our children safe and responsible when using the internet and the many social media devices and apps available to them today.

Giving Tree

As the Advent season begins (11/29-30), OLG’s Giving Tree will be filled with tags for children at Treehouse and Catholic Housing Services’ Santa Teresita housing program.  Through the Giving Tree, parents at Santa Teresita receive gift cards for their children, offering them the joy of picking out the perfect gift. The Treehouse tags have suggested items that will go to foster children of all ages.  The collected donations stock Treehouse’s Wearhouse, where foster families are able to ‘shop’ free-of-charge for their child.  Santa Teresita cards go in the marked box in the church, while Treehouse gifts go unwrapped, in the collection barrel in the narthex.  Please return all gifts by 12/14.  Thank you for your generosity!  If you are interested in helping to deliver the gifts to Treehouse, contact Jennifer Ibach at 206-935-0358 x.120.

Pastoral Associate
Our Lady of Guadalupe has a wonderful tradition of inviting all children who want to participate in our Christmas Eve Children’s Mass, December 24th at 4:00 pm. Five wonderful parishioners have made additional costumes, so that all of our children can participate in the reenactment of the Christmas Story. Please see the flyer to find out more, or contact Marion Kari at (206)935-0358, ext. 113.
Please see our Advent and Christmas Schedule for Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish. Join us in celebrating this Holy Season!
