OLG Newsletter – May 14th
May 14, 2015
Dear OLG Families,
Congratulations to Shannon Hieger, 7th grade homeroom teacher and recipient of this year’s Distinguished Teacher/Staff Excellence Award. She will be traveling to the Holy Land for an immersion in the historical, cultural and religious realities of the region and to gain first-hand experiences to enhance the 7th grade curriculum, focused on the “Life and Times of Jesus Christ” and Catholic Social Teaching, as well as 8th grade discussions of world-wide current events. Thank you to everyone who nominated a teacher/staff member earlier this spring and to the generous donor who makes this enrichment opportunity possible.
Plans are in place to install new windows in the stairwells, at the ends of both hallways, and in the library this summer. Thanks to our awesome 2015 Auction Fund-a-Need donors for enabling this much-needed upgrade to happen.
Thank you to our hard-working Field Day volunteers; we’re looking forward to tomorrow!
School Picnic & Field Day – TOMORROW – Friday, May 15th
The Parent Org is proud to host OLG’s annual school picnic and field day which takes place tomorrow on May 15th. Thank you to Shelley Bradley (4th grade Parent Org Rep), Tovee Delallana (5th grade Parent Org Rep), Jeannie Carlsen (6th grade Parent Org Co-Rep) and Lucille van der Hagen (6th grade Parent Org Co-Rep) for organizing this year’s event!
Hot dogs, buns, condiments, fruit & veggies, Goldfish Crackers and juice boxes will be provided by the Parent Org, while 4th and 5th grade families are generously providing dessert items, while 6th grade will be providing chips! Thank you to those three class families who have already signed up to bring an item! We are looking forward to a warm, sunny day and hope you can join us! As always, family members are welcome to join us for lunch and to watch the field day activities!
There is still time to VOLUNTEER at this awesome event! We need helpers for setup, serving and cleanup. This is such a fun event with fun people in the kitchen and fun kids to serve! So, come be a part of it all and get a jump start on those commitment hours for next year!
Last week in the FCE, we sent home Jog-a-thon invoices. We appreciate your prompt payment on these invoices. Payments are due by Friday, May 15th. You can easily make your tax-deductible payments on the website. Simply click “make a donation” and follow the on-screen instructions. If paying by check, please consolidate to one check where possible.

Did you know that OLG has been a meal drop-off site for Chicken Soup Brigade for the past 8 years? This program helps our homebound, aged, and chronically ill neighbors to get groceries and nutritious meals. Food delivery is currently being done by the organization’s staff, so we are looking for some drivers and volunteers who can help them expand their reach in West Seattle. Would you be able to pick up groceries/meals at their distribution center in Georgetown on a Thursday afternoon? Could you be at OLG between 4-5pm on Thursdays to hand out meals to the 5 local clients? Would you have an hour or two on a Tuesday or Thursday afternoon or a Saturday morning to deliver food to 4-7 homebound or ill neighbors? We are looking to form a team so that pick up and delivery could rotate, making it possible to serve just once a month. Interested? Contact Jennifer Ibach at 206-935-0358 x.120.
