Second Grade
2nd Graders are Moving & Learning with the Spirit!
OLG second graders are learning about the many ways the Holy Spirit is with us in our daily lives. As we prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we are also learning about how Jesus is our role model for being loving people in the world as well as being good stewards of the earth and each other. We recognize that Jesus is with us always, helping us make loving choices, and always forgiving us when we make unloving choices. Each week we spend time praying for our parish community as we clean the church. On Fridays, we spend special time in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel learning more about our faith as we sit with Jesus’ presence in the Tabernacle. We practice our mass responses as we pray for our loved ones while we are in that sacred space. We ask for your prayers as we journey towards the sacraments of First Reconciliation (January) and First Communion (April).
In the classroom, we are beginning an extensive unit on South America! We will be addressing the Common Core English Language Arts Standards using informational and literary texts about South America. We will be learning the importance of the Amazon Rainforest in our world and writing opinion/persuasive paragraphs about saving the rainforest. We will also be completing research-based creative projects about the different countries & animals of South America. We are excited to learn about the South American culture and continent, and look forward to presenting our projects to our classmates & parents in December. Watch for our colorful rainforest murals in the hallways in just a couple of weeks!
