Dear OLG Families,
Our School Fund Drive Benefit Dinner is just around the corner! See below for information about this campaign and the essential support it provides for our school!
OLG “Window of Opportunity” School Fund Drive!
For 15 years, the School Fund Drive has supported our school’s mission by funding four areas of school life: tuition assistance; teacher professional development and enrichment; a contribution to the school endowment; and a facilities or programming project.
Did you know?
The School Fund Drive provides continuing education to all OLG School staff, as well as an annual $3,500 travel award for teaching excellence. OLG values our outstanding teachers and ensures they’ll be up-to-date on things like Common Core standards and making the most of iPads. Last year’s teaching excellence award sent 7th grade teacher, Shannon Hieger, to the Holy Land, where she followed the steps of Jesus and experienced first-hand the majesty of Jerusalem. As Mrs. Hieger said:
I had the incredible opportunity to tour Israel and immerse myself in the historical, cultural, and spiritual complexities of the region and expand my understanding of its significance to our faith and on the world stage. This eye-opening trip through the Holy Land brought biblical stories to life and has equipped me to teach the seventh grade religion curriculum and Catholic Social Teachings with greater relevance and intensity. From the ancient ruins of Caesarea and Masada, to the shores of the Sea of Galilee, to Old Town Jerusalem, it has reinvigorated my love of learning, fascination with human history, and cultural awareness and understanding. Beyond measure, this experience has re-affirmed the emphasis I place on educating for multiple perspectives and critical thinking in a global society.
Help our school meet its “window of opportunity” by making a donation to the School Fund Drive. OLG depends on support from every school family for the Fund Drive, especially this year as we continue retrofitting the building with new windows and blinds. Two grant makers have said they’re interested in helping us, but they need to see significant community buy-in first.
Please prayerfully consider what you can afford. Pledge cards and invitations to our Oct. 10th Benefit Dinner are arriving in mailboxes. And no matter what you can afford, do give! Every gift makes a difference, and the higher our participation, the more likely a grant maker will help us.Questions? Contact Carrie Morrissey, OLG School Director of Development and Marketing, (206) 935-0651 ext. 124.
Don’t miss out on a great opportunity! We are looking for one or two people to organize our community’s annual Christmas Lighting and Caroling event on December 4th. This is a free community event that has become a beloved tradition over the years and a great way to kick-start the spirit of the Season! If interested, contact Erin Stampe
for more information.
Next Parent Org Meeting: Tuesday, October 13th @ 6:30 pm. All are welcome!

Join OLG’s Chicken Soup Brigade Team: A few hours a month can change lives!
Did you know that OLG has been a meal drop-off site for Chicken Soup Brigade for the past 8 years? This program helps our homebound, aged, and chronically ill neighbors to get groceries and nutritious meals. OLG has a small team of volunteers who pick up the food and deliver it to people in need in West Seattle/White Center. We could use some additional drivers and volunteers to help with the Thursday afternoon route. It’s an approximately 2 hour commitment every 3-4 weeks. Working in a team provides some great flexibility and a chance to build community with others. Interested? Contact Jennifer Ibach at (206) 935-0358 ext. 120.
Our Lady of Guadalupe School & Parish acknowledges that we are on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle, the Duwamish People past and present, and honor with gratitude the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.
