Elementary (K-5)

Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember.
Involve me and I learn.
Benjamin Franklin

The Kindergarten through 5th Grade program at Our Lady of Guadalupe School fosters a love of learning, while establishing a solid foundation in academic and study skills.  A sense of community grows within our self-contained classrooms, and students grow in faith and service through liturgies, prayer and reflection experiences.  In keeping with our mission to develop service and leadership in our students, each grade level has a year-long Service Project they undertake and lead for the school.

Engage! Explore! Excite!

Thematic units allow for cross-curricular connections, infusion of the arts and technology, and meaningful, integrated learning.  Students participate in a wide variety of fiction and non-fiction reading, write for a variety of purposes and audiences, and develop literacy skills in all curriculum areas.  Our math program, Math in Focusguides students to a depth of understanding of math concepts through a concrete pictorial abstract progression. In science, our students engage in hands-on, inquiry-based learning through the use of FOSS Science kits, which have been adapted to align with the Next Generation Science Standards.

Physical education is woven into the day with classes in the Walmesley Center and Gymnasium as well as recess.

With a rich arts program, OLG students develop skill and appreciation in the visual arts and music – including Chorus optional classes in 4th and 5th grades and Band, beginning in 5th Grade.
