Music Program

At OLG, we strive to educate the whole person, developing students who not only understand, integrate and apply knowledge in all academic subject areas, but who also experience and incorporate the arts into their school life.

This is why for Our Lady of Guadalupe School, music education is more than just music. Learning music facilitates learning other subjects and enhances skills that children inevitably use in other areas. Music education fosters greater work ethic and discipline.

Students learn from an early age that while hard work, determination, and a positive mindset might be key to succeed, continual practice is also required. Needless to say, work ethic, commitment, perseverance and discipline are huge factors of music education, and are also life skills that will positively impact students as they progress through Early Learning, Elementary, Middle School, High School and beyond.

In Music classes, our students will sing, dance and play instruments. They will learn, among many other things, solfège, how to identify rhythms and notes on the music staff, how to read sheet music and music in hymnals, music theory and world music with colorful and engaging videos, songs and dances. They will also practice -and perform- short musicals from MusicPlay / John Jacobson and MTI, often by using the big green screen in our beautiful Denini Music Classroomwhich allows us to make our students’ thinking visible and explore beyond classroom walls. Once our students reach 4th Grade, they can opt to participate in Chorus, as well as School Band when they get to 5th Grade.

We invite you to take a look at the video below to learn more about our Music Program Specialist, Ann Sager, and OLG’s Music Program. In this short video, we get to see how she -not only- brings the best in all our students by making Music their best subject, but through this, our students’ sense of self and their confidence is dramatically boosted. All children desire to be good at something and develop a sense of achievement for a job well done, and OLG’s music education produces an outlet that is perfect for that.
