6th Grade Environmental Science Camp

Camp Hamilton is a Catholic Youth Organization summer camp owned and operated by the Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle. It is located in rural Snohomish County, near Monroe. Nestled in the Cascade foothills on Lake Hannan, Camp Hamilton has been helping campers feel alive in their faith since 1990. Whether it’s boating on the lake or climbing the high ropes, playing paintball or stringing a bow & arrow, campers at Hamilton will laugh, sing, experience God while making new friends. They will experience true joy as they grow into a community of faith!

The annual 6th Grade Environmental Science Camp allows our students to spend three days of hands-on discovery that includes classroom activities, laboratory investigations and investigations in the field. It also challenge them to live, learn and grow in the Catholic faith. Camp Hamilton, as a CYO Camp, is the only summer camp option in Washington that inspires campers to learn respect and dignity for themselves, others and the environment… all through Catholic teachings.

What does canoeing next to a beaver dam, feeling wildlife bones, and coring a red cedar have to do with our Catholic faith?

Sixth grade students at CYO’s Environmental Education program get to experience science through a Catholic lens using Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato si’, and supporting the Next Generation Science Standards. This 3 day residential camping program calls students to apply the science lessons and environmental stewardship beyond camp to your schools and communities. Students will:

  • Connect with their environment through scientific observation, investigations, and experiential immersion in this beautiful wilderness surrounding Lake Hannan.
  • Connect the Catholic faith to the natural world around them.
  • Develop a personal connection to God’s Creation.
  • Participate in cooperative learning groups and problem solving in a supportive community setting.
