School Counseling Mission Statement
The OLG school counseling program is dedicated to providing a safe, inclusive, and collaborative environment where all students can develop the interpersonal skills that are the building blocks to reaching their personal, academic, and career goals.
The primary components of the OLG School Counseling program include:
Individual Check-In
As a School Counselor, I do not provide clinical therapy sessions; I assist students in reaching their academic goals and learning to understand and manage emotions and social situations. To that end, I can provide one-on-one check-ins with students on a short-term basis and refer those who need longer-term, more intensive counseling support to community providers. To refer a student for an individual check-in, please use the Referral Form so I may begin to understand the issue at hand.
Small Group Counseling
Working in a small group is one of the best ways to learn important social-emotional lessons. In small group sessions, we work through a wide variety of topics, including how to make friends (and keep them), emotional regulation, communication, dealing with a divorce/separation, and managing anxiety. If there is a particular type of group you would like your child to participate in, please contact me.
Family Support
Families who are going through difficulties or would like extra support can meet with me to get help for a wide variety of needs.
Social-Emotional Learning Classes
An important part of our school counseling program is teaching social-emotional learning (SEL) in the classroom, helping all students learn a variety of social skills. Throughout your child’s education at OLG we use Second Step curriculum, developed by the Committee for Children. You can find more information about OLG’s SEL program by going to the Social-Emotional Learning page. You can see the schedule of topics in SEL classes by visiting the SEL Google Calendar, but please note the schedule is subject to change.
I look forward to partnering with you to support your children. Please contact me Monday-Friday if you have questions or concerns.
Warmly,
Ms. Kim Brunskill
