Course Overview and Expectations:
In 8th Accelerated Grade Algebra, instructional time focuses on four critical areas: 1) Formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including solving linear and nonlinear equations and systems of linear equations; 2) Grasping the concept of a function, including linear, quadratic and exponential functions; 3) Analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem; and 4) Investigating real numbers and their properties. This course is based on the 8th-grade common core algebra concepts, including numbers, expressions, and operations; characteristics and behaviors of functions; linear functions, equations, and inequalities; quadratic functions and equations and applying problem solving strategies throughout all units. It covers all topics at a faster pace with more demands for independent work, proficient basic math skills, and strong organizational skills.
