Eighth Grade Accelerated Algebra

Course Overview and Expectations:

In 8th Accelerated Grade Algebra, instructional time focuses on four critical areas: 1) Formulating and reasoning about expressions and equations, including solving linear and nonlinear equations and systems of linear equations; 2) Grasping the concept of a function, including linear, quadratic and exponential functions; 3) Analyzing two- and three-dimensional space and figures using distance, angle, similarity, and congruence, and understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem; and 4) Investigating real numbers and their properties. We invite you to review the complete Eight Grade Math (Accelerated Algebra) Syllabus, where we review guidelines for success, classroom expectations, required materials and supplies and all other important information you will need for the school year.

This course is based on the 8th-grade common core algebra concepts, including numbers, expressions, and operations; characteristics and behaviors of functions; linear functions, equations, and inequalities; quadratic functions and equations and applying problem solving strategies throughout all units. It covers all topics at a faster pace with more demands for independent work, proficient basic math skills, and strong organizational skills.
